10 Advanced Factory Optimization Tips
Most late factory failures are flow-control problems, not a shortage of machines. These ten improvements work with density, phase changes and repeatable modules to reduce jams and manual cleanup.
Practical guide 1–2. Sort Complex Flows and Keep Residue
- Use Advanced Filters for mixed phases: select multiple solids, liquids and gases, but keep the Allow/Block logic explicit.
- Treat Residue as input: burn it, press Burnt Residue and collect both Gold and Seeds instead of building a waste pit.
3–4. Move Heat and Water With Physics
- Use Steam for vertical transport: boil Water, let Steam rise, then condense and collect it above.
- Buffer heat: use a broad Lava reservoir or trapped lit Cinder with Thermal Buffers so processes do not depend on a tiny point source.

5–6. Build Vertically and Copy Modules
- Control Launcher trajectories: drag height determines the output arc; exploit vertical space and hold Control to replace a line with upgraded parts.
- Blueprint stable modules: select with C, copy/paste the tested block, then expand by repetition instead of reconstructing it by eye.
7–8. Stabilize Water and Filter Densest First
- Keep Lumlings near washing: enough captured creatures create a small continuous Water supply; size demand around the observed rate.
- Filter from the bottom: extract the densest material first. A lighter target above a dense layer can remain pinned even when the Filter rule looks correct.
9–10. Recirculate Incomplete Reactions and Cap Feed Height
- Return unreacted material: filter completed products out and send the remainder around another pass instead of demanding perfect one-pass conversion.
- Flatten critical feeds: a one-block-high channel can stop dense pixels sinking beneath a tall pile. This is a community starting pattern, so compare its throughput with your own mixture.
Community Diagnosis: Prefer Local Return Loops
In a factory troubleshooting thread, players identify a large feedback loop as a source of delay and congestion. Their useful refinement is to keep unprocessed material inside the process area and recirculate it locally.
Use the smallest return loop that crosses the reaction or machine again, then export only the completed product. A factory-wide loop is still valid when many modules share one bus, but it carries more inventory and makes the original bottleneck harder to see.
