Beginner Hints and Hidden Controls

These are the small mechanics that prevent large factory mistakes: inspect first, build compactly, keep storage moving, learn alternate placement modes and give deterministic plant output room to appear.

1. Keep the Material Scanner On

The Grabber upgrade explains resource interactions and the tool needed for terrain. Use it before experimenting: it distinguishes a valid refinement path from an obstacle that needs a weapon or heat.

2. A Shaker Does Not Need One Long Diagonal

A compact, tileable Shaker can provide the same useful travel length without consuming a tall diagonal corridor. Test the path with real Wet Sand, then copy the working module.

3. Recirculate Storage Overflow

A static Residue box fills from the landing point outward and eventually blocks its input. Put Conveyors along the floor and Launchers at the end so the contents keep moving and return to the top. This increases usable capacity and avoids a dead pocket.

4. Press R for Alternate Placement

R cycles Launcher variants and turns horizontal Filters into wall Filters. Pumps and Liquid Vents cycle single, line and rectangle placement. Use C to copy a working configured part, and “Edit last placed” to correct a Filter without rebuilding it.

5. Advanced Filters Handle Complex Mixtures

An Advanced Filter can Allow or Block several selected types and includes solids, liquids and gases. One mode applies to the whole selection: in Allow mode every unselected type is blocked; Block mode does the reverse.

6. Flowers Need Output Space

Takovacs attributes this explanation to developer Lantto: committed Wet Seeds produce a deterministic number of Flowers, but a cramped chamber can queue that output with nothing visible. Expanding the enclosure lets the waiting Flowers grow. Treat the queue explanation as creator-reported until documented officially.

Guide FAQ

Can a Filter be placed vertically?
The video demonstrates pressing R to switch to a wall Filter. This control is video-demonstrated but absent from the captured official guide.
Do cramped Planter Boxes lose Seeds?
The creator-reported developer explanation says output waits for space; this queue behavior is not independently documented in the captured official pages.
